Toyota posts strong hybrid sales
Toyota hybrid vehicle sales have surpassed the one million mark. More than half of this total - 541,210 units - were sold in the U.S., from 2000 through April 2007. Toyota sold more than 34,000 hybrid vehicles in May 2007, up 121% over May 2006. Lexus sold more than 1,900 hybrid vehicles in the same period. By the end of June, 2007 Toyota hybrid sales in the U.S. totaled more than 119,000, a 75% increase over the same period last year.

Toyota expects to sell 250,000 hybrid vehicles in the U.S. in 2007, despite the progressive phasing down of IRS hybrid vehicle tax credits.

Toyota facilities achieve environmental gains
Toyota's New York Parts Distribution Center and the Cincinnati Parts Distribution Center/Region Sales Office have achieved zero-waste-to-landfill status. They recycle more than 85% of their waste, and the remainder is used to produce energy. These facilities join other U.S. Toyota locations in reaching zero-waste-to-landfill standing, including the U.S. Toyota headquarters in Torrance, California, all thirteen U.S. Toyota manufacturing facilities, and Toyota vehicle distribution centers in Newark, New Jersey and Long Beach, California.

The San Antonio Vehicle Distribution Center has received ISO 14001 certification of its Environmental Management Systems (EMS). All U.S. Toyota distribution centers are now ISO 14001 certified. ISO 14001 is a voluntary regimen that requires the establishment of an environmental policy to determine the environmental impact of business activities and the institution of systems to meet measurable environmental targets.

New Lexus V8 hybrid sedan
Lexus has launched its LS 600h L luxury all-wheel-drive sedan, the first V8 hybrid from Toyota or Lexus. Its Hybrid Synergy Drive® power plant has a 5.0-liter gas engine plus two permanent magnet motor generators, with a total output of 438 horsepower. The LS 600h L has a super ultra-low emissions vehicle (SULEV) rating and a newly developed Hydrocarbon Absorber and Catalyst (HCAC) system, which helps prevent hydrocarbons in the exhaust from being released into the atmosphere during cold starts. The LS 600h L has an EPA estimated 20 mpg city/22 mpg highway fuel efficiency rating, with a combined EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 21 mpg. This is equal to or better than the combined fuel economy ratings of many V6 all-wheel-drive mid-sized luxury sedans.

Lexus Environmental Challenge for secondary schools
The Lexus Environmental Challenge is an environmental action competition for middle and high school students to develop and implement environmental programs for the improvement of their communities. Each challenge addresses a different environmental dimension—land, water, air, and climate. The winning teams from the four challenges advance to the Final Challenge to develop a program with the goal of effecting significant change in the world. More than $1 million in scholarships will be awarded through the program.

• The Clean Air Day National Steering Committee awarded Toyota Canada the 2007 Clean Air Award in recognition of the development and production of hybrid vehicles.

• For the seventh year, Toyota Canada has sponsored the Friends of the Rouge Watershed, a community group that rehabilitates the environmentally sensitive Rouge Valley in the Greater Toronto area. Each year, Toyota provides vehicles and funds the purchase of plants. More than 100 Toyota associates planted trees, shrubs, and wildflowers.

• With the Smart Print Solution now mandatory at all applicable copiers and printers at its main campus, Toyota Canada anticipates reducing the consumption of paper and print consumables by at least 20%.
